What does your house look like in December? Is it covered, top to bottom, in red and green and holly and ivy? Or are your Christmas decorations few and far between?
If I had to guess, I’d say your answer probably has something to do with how many years you’ve lived on your own. Or perhaps it’s related to how your family celebrated holidays – or how many boxes they sent with you when you moved out on your own!
Most of us, I think, collect our holiday decorations bit by bit over the years, building a collection that brightens our homes, reflects our values and preserves our memories.
This year, I’m excited to be adding to my collection with a few pieces from Dayspring. Have you seen their Jesus is the Gift Snowflake line? Red is my favorite color, so I might be biased, but I think these items just might work with anyone’s Christmas decor. Check it out:
Aprons are all the rage right now. You can hardly pass a blog giveaway (including mine!) without seeing another cute apron. This one’s on sale for $15.99, and the half apron and child’s apron are both even less!
Okay, now raise your hand if you’ve been invited to a cookie exchange this year. I was, but it fell on my Everything Happens When I Go Out of Town weekend. But I have a feeling I’ll still have the chance to display some Christmas cookies, fudge or other sweets on this cute plate. (And it’s only $10.99!)
After I got these tea towels, I started thinking about my regular towels. Then I started looking at them. And thinking some more. And I am pretty sure they are more than 10 years old. Well, they still dry my hands and the dishes – but these new towels are way cuter!
Until Monday (December 14), you can get 25% off any purchase from Dayspring. Just use the code: GIFT25. And if you’d like, you can get to the Dayspring store from the banner over in my right sidebar.
I love my new Christmas decorations, and you can visit The Diaper Diaries for more loved things. But now tell me: what’s your favorite Christmas decoration?

I'm a snowman junkie! for years I have collected snowman decor…from all white sets to patchwork snowmen in multi colors. This year I have been coveting that snowflake collectin from Dayspring. Haven't given in and purchased yet, but the 25% off may push me over the edge!
I love my Jim Shore Nativity Set. The figures are resin and have patchwork designs incorporated into the figurines' clothing. I have the whole set and a garden angel (who stands in to watch over the scene. I bought it 5 years ago and just think it's beautiful.
My favorite secular piece is a white deer with huge antlers. A tiny red bird is perched on one antler nub. I like to leave it up well into winter and surround him with red candles on white plates or clear jars filled with cranberries. So pretty (and easy, and inexpensive).
I have some Swedish Advent Candles that Mel sent me as a wedding present and they are BY FAR my favorite decoration. There's just something wonderful about candles on a windowsill! And better yet, the encapsulate a very wonderful Christmas season years ago along with the ones that have been celebrated since I received this gift which have been blessed beyond my imagining!
This year has been sad as one light burnt out and now the whole contraption doesn't work. Thankfully my dear husband spent lots of time tracking down exactly the right blub and they should be arriving soon. I think I may cherish it even more now!
And yes, you might be thinking, what does Kim grab out of a burning house- her husband, kids, and the Swedish candles? – umm… probably! :)
Aw, Kimberly, that's sweet — I'm sure Mel would be happy to know it! :)
aww…i love you kimmie!
I love my mantle decorations. Super easy. I just bought some of that old school tacky silver tinsle and drape it all over. Then I have some blue and silver Christmas trees that go up there too. It looks super retro and I love it!!
we don't have a lot of decorations, simply for the fact that we don't have a lot of room to store them the other 11 months… we just have a tree, a tiny nativity set, and lighted 9lit?) garland on our bannister. so i'd have to say that the tree ornaments are my favorite. especially this year, when we were decorating the tree, samantha would pull out an ornament and reminisce about it saying "OH I LOVE THIS ORNAMENT! I REMEMBER WHEN YOU GAVE IT TO ME!!" and then she'd pull out another one and ooh and ahh over it and hug me because it was her favorite one…
and then there's the big purple ant ornament that hums 'deck the halls'… gotta love that one!
I don't have tons of decorations around…the usual, tree, wreath on the front door…some stuff on on the fireplace mantle…and a few odds and ends laying of shelves around the house. The title to this post made me laugh…because Miles, my almost 5 year old has been singing this particular song…but he has his own words, that I thought were appropriate: He sings, "Deck the Halls with Lots of Jolly"…and Yes, with 4 kids, you can bet my house is decorated with THAT this time of year!
