When I was asked by Clever Girls Collective and SWAGG to write about the best gift I ever gave, I had to laugh. Apparently they don’t know that I consider all my gifts to be the best. Ever.
But, okay, if I have to narrow it down to one, I guess I can pick three. (What?)
I wasn’t blogging when Mark turned 30, but if I had been, you would have most certainly heard about it. I spent months planning an elaborate (surprise, of course) party and group gifts. And you KNOW I didn’t place any expectations on the whole thing. Right? RIGHT?
That may not be exactly how it happened. There may have been an unexpected puppy, a tantrum and a crying headache. Just maybe.
But we got to the party. Mark was appropriately surprised (see above). Lots of our friends and family – and even his boss – showed up to wish him a happy birthday. And when we showed him the new grill and smoker we’d gone together to buy for him, he was really excited.
My favorite part of the gift(s) I gave him for that milestone birthday was the scrapbook I made.
In the months before Mark’s birthday, I collected handwritten notes from all his friends and our family about why they loved him. And, yeah, I gave them suggestions about what to write, but the sweet (and, more often than not, funny) sentiments and memories they shared were incredibly kind and touching.
After I collected the notes (only strong-arming a few people), I put them into a very manly scrapbook with photos of Mark over the past 30 years. I loved it.
And, oh yeah, more importantly – Mark loved it. And THAT is the best present I ever gave.
What is the best present YOU ever gave?

Shortly after The Horse Whisperer came out my dad had a birthday and I gave him the soundtrack on tape. He wore that tape out listening to it over and over. It was great to give a gift that was used and loved so much. That’s by far the best gift I ever gave.
Fun post!
What a great gift! Actually – any gift that’s loved that much is a great gift, right?
So cute! Do you still scrapbook? I did our wedding and I am so stinking proud of it but now with little hands and less time I don’t scrapbook anymore. Looks lke that was a great gift!
I do still scrapbook. With a kiddo and two cats (and a small house), I can’t leave my stuff out, so I only do it a few times a year. But I love it!
