I bought Mark a shirt with this graphic a few years ago. For the record, he’s been a big fan of bacon for a long time – since well before it was A Thing. But now that it’s a thing, he can celebrate his love with t-shirts. So that’s good.
We had a bacon disaster a while back. Mark had bought what he THOUGHT were two packages of delightfully thick-sliced bacon at a butcher. We’d stuck them in the freezer to save for a special occasion. Or an occasion for which we needed bacon and didn’t have any from the store on hand.
Well, of course, said occasion (the short-handed one, not the special one) (although, one could argue that any occasion with bacon is special) (ANYWAY) finally happened. So I thawed the package of bacon and then, when the time was right, put the slices in the oven. (Because that’s the best place to cook bacon. Seriously and you’re welcome.)
But when the bacon should have been all crisped up and delicious, it…well…WASN’T. Because it WASN’T BACON. It was some other pork product. Some other strips-of-pork product. I don’t even know what to call it, other than NOT BACON.
It was a sad moment. But not nearly as sad as the moment I realized I messed up today’s Works For Me Wednesday.
Friends, I am so very sorry this post – and the WFMW linkup – wasn’t published sooner. To be completely honest, I simply forgot that today is Wednesday in the excitement and hubbub of working on a redesign for this site. WHAT? That does NOT work for me, and I apologize to you all for letting you down.
I actually had anticipated that this site would be completely down today and asked a friend to host WFMW. She kindly agreed – and then I promptly forgot to follow up. So, the new plan is this: I’m posting here, now. Then next week, Works for Me Wednesday will be hosted at Kayse Pratt’s awesome blog!
If only I could send each one of you a bacon bouquet this morning to say I’m sorry. (Oh yeah, it’s totally a thing.) But since I can’t, how about a few of my favorite recipes full of bacon-y goodness to celebrate National Bacon Day?! (National Bacon Day is this Saturday. Of course. I’m sure you had it marked on your calendars, too, right?!)
Delicious Bacon-y Recipes for You
Bacon Burgers with Bacon Jam
Beer-Candied Bacon
Southern Green Beans (with bacon)
Cheesy Corn Casserole (with bacon)
Spicy Corn Dip (with bacon)
Baked Chicken Taquitos (with bacon)
Deviled Eggs (with bacon)
Jalapeno Popper Dip (with bacon)
Bacon Chicken Bites
Bacon-Wrapped Green Beans
Garlic Chicken Pasta
Hoping bacon makes my WFMW mistake better works for me!
Now, I will say that I am not a fan of adding bacon to EVERYTHING. Like brownies or cupcakes or – as seen in a candy shop and the photo above – candy. But hey, however you want to celebrate Bacon Day is up to you! :)
So, to wrap up: bacon is delicious, I’m so sorry WFMW is so late, and next week’s WFMW will be at KaysePratt.com!
Thanks to you, we make bacon in the oven regularly now. It’s our favorite.
Things like this is why the internet was invented.
I’m mostly vegetarian, but bacon is just SO GOOD! I eat it a few times a year in restaurants. We like to joke that it’s a “sea vegetable”. Moderation in all things–or, put another way, into each life a little bacon should fall. :-)
I like your definition of moderation! ;)
Hahah ooooh bacon. It’s funny how much of a craze it’s become these last few years! No worries at all about it being late. Life happens, you know? Hope you guys are finding peace and sweet time together in the midst of the craziness!
Thank you, Lauren. Life certainly does happen! ;)
Love your writing style Mary. Giving Up On Perfect works for me whatever time it arrives. Thanks for hosting this great link up each week. Love your blog.
We all have those days. I have been there and done that. Love your bacon recipes. I usually don’t eat much bacon, but my husband loves it.
