Today I’m joined by my very good friend, friend of the show, and Hooked on Holiday Movies partner, Anna Rendell. As you know, if you’ve been listening to The Couch for a while, Anna and I love holiday movies but we also look at them with a bit of a critical eye, especially when it comes to diversity. So today we’re taking a look at the holiday movie season overall to see if the big networks (especially Hallmark) followed through on their promises to be more diverse and inclusive.
I’m not going to lie. Some of our conversation might sound a smidge awkward, because we are two white ladies talking about this. But we think it’s worth it. Because this is important, and we need to talk about it, even if it’s hard or awkward or we don’t know the exact words to use.
So, grab your hot cocoa, stick a candy cane in it or top if off with all the marshmallows (or both! Who are we to judge your holiday movie season beverages?!), and let’s get started.
