When you compare $18 (for two) to $1, it’s a pretty easy choice. And that’s why, when I sat down to make my list of “favorite movies of 2008,” I ended up with a list of “favorite movies of 2007 and 2008.”
And then I realized, as I searched my blog for my recent movies reviews, that if you wanted to hear about the movies I watched this last year, you could do the same thing.
So I’ll keep it brief. The best movies I saw in 2008 were Definitely, Maybe, 21, Juno, Mamma Mia, Dan in Real Life, Waitress and Hairspray. And I won’t lie. I also quite enjoyed Made of Honor, 27 Dresses, Fool’s Gold, Enchanted, Ratatouille and What Happens in Vegas.
Now, on to a more interesting list (I hope): the movies of 2008 that I haven’t seen, but want to. And again, this is more a list of movies from the past couple of years, since I typically wait until they’re out on video. In no particular order, I’d like to see…
- Rachel Getting Married
- Burn After Reading
- Wall-E
- The Dark Knight
- Iron Man
- Hancock
- Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2
- This Christmas
- Nothing Like the Holidays
- Michael Clayton
- Eagle Eye (we’re renting this over the weekend)
What were your favorite movies of the last year? What movies would you still like to see?
Just saw Marley & Me yesterday and I LOVED IT!!! It's on my "best" list. I'll be renting some movies for New Year's Eve. I'd rather get all dressed up and go to a big, fancy party and toast in the new year with chilled champagne while confetti is falling from the ceiling, but unfortunately, we don't have plans for that. *sniff*. But, I'm sure I'll have fun doing the next best thing….snuggling by a cozy fire, watching a good movie, while eating popcorn and candy.
Rental movies are definately cheaper than theater for my family too….It costs our family in upwards of $40 to go to the movies…but Pay Per View seems to be a good bet for us…we TIVO the movie, and there are NO late fees. But maybe I’ll join Netflix again to keep up with all the good flicks that are upcoming…and that I obviously missed last year.
Update – I saw Hancock and Eagle Eye over the holiday weekend. Hancock was good, though (as everyone else has said) not what you’d expect from a “superhero movie.” Eagle Eye was a big fat disappointment. It wasn’t bad, but not that great, and I’d been looking forward to it since I saw a preview months ago.
Brenda – I'm so glad you loved Marley & Me! I know you were looking forward to it, and I'm glad it lived up to your expectations!! I've never gone to a fancy NYE party, though we've hosted several casual get-togethers in the past. This year will be quieter – just Mark, Smitty, Chelley and me.
Hip Mama – I've heard good things about Netflix but haven't tried it myself. And I can't wait until the day we have DVR – I'll be recording all kinds of "free" things to watch!!
Iron Man was WAY more enjoyable than we were expecting – put that at the top of your list! And we really, really liked Bolt. And by “we”, I mean, the grownups in the house. Animated or not, we laughed til we cried.
We’d be hurting without Netflix!
Best movies I’ve seen this/last year: Enchanted, Stardust, The Dark Knight, Juno, Prince Caspian, Hairspray, Get Smart, Ocean’s 13, and Amazing Grace
Movies I’d still like to see: Burn After Reading; Iron Man; Hulk; Dan in Real Life (forgot about this one until you mentioned it!); Kung Fu Panda; Mamma Mia; Kit Kittredge; Definitely, Maybe (maybe;); Ghost Town; I Am Legend; Young at Heart; Valkyrie; Yes Man (only b/c there’s an HP party scene in it:)); Marley & Me; Seven Pounds (if people tell me it’s ok); The Tale of Despereaux; and now Bolt ;)
Did you do a review of ‘Waitress,’ Photo? Because I’ve heard good things about it from reviewers, but I don’t always agree with them. I’d love to hear your opinion. :)
Oh, I want to see Kit Kittredge, too, Chelley! Brenda has a review of Marley & Me on her site, and Mandy Thompson (mandythompson.com) said Seven Pounds was amazing.
I didn't review Waitress – maybe I watched it before I started this blog? It was really good. It's not exactly a feel-good movie or one that makes you laugh non-stop, but it's definitely a quality movie in my opinion.
Ok, add that to my already long list then. ;)
Hiya! Quick question that’s completely off topic. Do you know how to make your site mobile friendly? My web site looks weird when viewing from my iphone 4. I’m trying
to find a template or plugin that might be able to resolve this problem.
If you have any suggestions, please share.
Thanks!
