More S'mores in a Jar

Earlier this summer a friend posted a s’mores-themed recipe to my Facebook wall. And last week my mom slipped me a {different} s’mores-themed recipe that she’d ripped out of a magazine.

Apparently I’ve become the s’mores lady. I think I’m cool with that.

Sunday is National S’mores Day, so of course AS THE S’MORES LADY I’m obligated to celebrate with a new recipe. Right? Isn’t that how this thing works? Okay, then. Here goes. I present to you…

S’mores in a jar.

Yeah. Because what’s the only (THE ONLY) problem with s’mores is the mess factor. So, let’s put it in a jar (AN ADORABLE LITTLE JAR), dig in with a spoon, and call it good. Easy peasy.

{Side note: When serving these at a taco party where you’re uncertain of the number of guests attending, just buy more jars. Don’t tell yourself that 12 will be enough and the other people can just make theirs in a Solo cup. Because when more than 12 kids show up and they ALL WANT THE JAR S’MORES? You’re going to have a situation on your hands. Not-so-hypothetically speaking…}

S’mores in a Jar

1 sleeve of graham crackers
1-2 tbsp of butter
1 Hershey chocolate bar
1 cup mini marshmallows

Crush the crackers into crumbs. (And then say THAT three times fast.) Melt the butter and mix it into the cracker crumbs. Break the chocolate bar into pieces. Then put the three parts into four half-pint glass jars. Each jar should have about a quarter-cup of crackers, four to six chocolate pieces, and just enough marshmallows to cover the chocolate.

(Don’t use too many marshmallows. They will grow and cover your microwave or oven in a sticky mess. #askmehowiknow)

You can either zap each jar in the microwave for 30 seconds or put the jars on a cookie sheet and bake them for a few minutes on 350 degrees. Either way, keep an eye on the jars at all times. That way you can prevent the previously mentioned marshmallow mess.

Now, the thing about this is that while putting our s’mores in a jar prevents the mess factor (if you watch it), it doesn’t do a thing about the oh-my-gosh-it’s-so-hot issue. The post where I originally saw this idea suggested tying a bit of felt around the jars as a cute potholder. I tried that, but it kind of looked like one of those Pinterest Fail pictures that make everyone laugh so hard.

So I used some burlap leftover from Halloween and yellow ribbon I had from, I don’t know, that time when I used to scrapbook? Anyway. It looked really cute, if I do say so myself! (It wasn’t, however, totally necessary when I used the microwave. The jar s’mores heated up quickly – and cooled down quickly.)
